Lookups ... By Volunteers

The volunteers listed below are just that .... volunteers .... with limited time. They have graciously agreed to look up information on your ancestor.  Please be as specific as possible, and give as much information as possible to help the volunteer "zone in" on your ancestor.  Giving a name such as "John Smith" is too vague and time consuming.  Use these guidelines to help us help you:

  • Name of ancestor (list various spellings you have found)

  • Time period they lived in Madison County (estimate if you're not sure)

  • Birth and/or death date, and marriage date, if known

  • Wife and children's names, if known

  • Area or township you ancestor may have live (such as Alton area, Edwardsville, Troy, Granite City, etc.)

  • Do you know your ancestor's occupation, such as Mayor, Policeman, Blacksmith?

  • Please do not give just the ancestor's name - that is too time consuming for the volunteer

  • Please do not supply your entire family tree. That takes too much time to read through.  Be specific on what you are looking for!

  • And remember to say thank you to our volunteers!

Please note: There are many books and resources available for free online, at   Go to the "Advanced Book Search" and put in your data. You'll be pleasantly surprised what is available for downloading or reading online!   If you have resources and would be willing to volunteer to do lookups, please contact Bev!
